Light precautions for the holidays

If you’re planning on putting up your own holiday lights, there are certain precautions you need to take to keep you and your home safe. This article summarizes the main safety “don’ts” you should follow.

  • Don’t use strings of lights with damaged wires or bulbs.
  • Don’t use or purchase strings missing the Underwriters Laboratory (UL) approved tag.
  • Don’t use indoor lights outdoors.

When choosing lights, you’ll save yourself a lot of hassle if you choose strings that will stay lit even if a bulb goes out. From an aesthetic standpoint, larger lights work better on larger objects such as houses while small lights should go on smaller trees and objects.

If you’d just like to avoid the hassle altogether, contact us. We can design, install, and take down holiday lighting schemes for your home to give you the look you want without the work.
